Genital warts for two years… will they go away?!!!?

I've had four partners, two of which came after I discovered I had hpv. This makes tracking when I caught hpv easily. if it was the last partner, I have had hpv since March 2005. I discovered I had hpv when my doctor found warts. they won't go away! they are internal warts, too. I've been using Aldara to boost the immune system, not smoking, sleeping, exercising, etc…. nothing is making them go away! I've been so grossed out with my body now, I haven't been able to be turned on six months. It's getting worse, too; I'm starting to get an external break out, even with Aldara. I've had three different doctors now and they all say that my body will get rid of the warts. I'm starting to think they are wrong. is it possible to have warts forever? Good lord, I hope not. I have to have sex again! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Go to Planned Parenthood, see a female doctor. Warts are "burned off", chemically and painlessly. you will have discomfort, but not pain. I'm hurt that the doctors you visited did not do what is obvious. your body will not just get rid of the warts, they are not passing pimples. do moles deflate and disappear- NO.

Any partners you have in the future must be told. if they don't have HPV, there is a vaccine available, Men-any time, Women, before age 26. There is no cure once you have it though.

As far as your immune system, consuming Echinacea, (pill or tea, occasionally, read the box), vitamin C, and vitamim E. Drinking fresh brewed hot green tea is always healthy.

There is some useful advice here.

i know how you feel. I had it, freaked out, and ran to the doctor.
He suggesed lasering my warts off. I had clusters of internal ones, and exterior ones as well. It was a horrible experience because it is VERY painful after when the anesthesia wears off. but as the doctor said, it would reduce future outbreaks, and guess what? I havent had an outbreak since! maybe a tiny small one every couple of months, but it goes away. I suggest laser for you, worth it!!!
Good luck!

Get tested for HIV and talk with your doc about other conditions that may cause immune suppression and get a referral to an Infectious Disease specialist.

Definitely use precautions so that the disease is not spread.

I don't know what to tell you for internal warts, but I know if you use Tetrasil on the warts that is on your skin it will kill it at the chemical level, because Tetrasil is made of silver and oxygen. Viruses can't survive around silver and oxygen.

You can go to tetrasil.com for more information.

Also you may want to research silver and oxygen against viruses.

Also you may want to research infopeptides. Dr. Betty Kamen said, "Infopeptides appear to give your immune system another chance to keep viral and bacteriological pathogens at bay." you can use Cytolog for this.

Anyone have a vaginal delivery with genital warts?

I'm 39 weeks pregnant (due monday) I asked a question on here about if my doctor or nurse would say anything about my warts while I am in labor. I'm not sure if anyone will be in the room besides my boyfriend and I. and I don't want anyone knowing that I have them. My doctor told me even though I have a outbreak I can still have my baby vaginally, that its very rare for a baby to get the warts. But everyone on here keeps telling me I need a c section if I have an outbreak. is this true?? Everything I read online and talked to my doctor about says you can only get a c section if the warts are so big they block the birth canal. I don't even have any internal warts. can I ask my doctor to note on my chart that I don't want any personal info said in front of anyone? I plan on talking to him about tonight at my appt. Thanks

doctor confidentiality. He cant tell any info you dont want him to tell so you should be fine. as for the infection do what you think is safest. Get a C section if ur that worried, if the doctor said they will be fine go natural, since it is his job to know the body and infections, probably only half the people who answer you know wut you are actually talking about.

You will defiantly need a c-section!

Having a vaginal delivery, while you have vaginal warts, is dangerous, harmful to your baby and not to mention absolutely disgusting!

The midwifes will be grossed out lol !

You said that you don't want anyone knowing that you have them, well how to expect to keep it a secret?
The midwifes, will certainly see them. They can't not see them.
They will also have to make a note of them, mainly in-case anything gets passed on to your baby.
As like i said, they can be very harmful.

I'm sorry if this message doesn't sound very nice, but it is my personal opinion, and I'm sure lots of other people will think differently. I am not even sure I'm 100% right, so it's up to whether you want to listen to me or not.

Oh and good luck with the baby.
Do you know if your having a boy or a girl?
You got any names in mind?

may I suggest c-section, my friend said its not painful, and you heal rather quickly, if you feel uncomfortable ,and feel its a chance that your baby may get it, just get a c-section, that way you know your baby is safe. oh, and congratulations!

Look dear, they are already there & you shouldn't think others are going to see them.I think they see many cases like you every now & then.so take it easy.
The thing you should think about is the safety of your baby.
And I have a question,
Are the warts close to the birth canal??
I think vaginal delivery is indicated only if they are small lesions & away from the vaginal outlet, otherwise cs is indicated no way.
Not only cause they obstruct labour, but also they can cause your baby getting them & it's not easy,in this case he may get laryngeal papilomatosis with hoarsness of voice, stridor ,respiratory distress & is also premalignant.
So it's the decision of your physician & no one else.
Don't worry about anything else.
Al will be alright .

if your doctor told you one thing and you looked it up and read the same thing, why are you here trying to get someone's OPINION instead of trusting your educated doctor and the medical literature? yeah, I am sure all these people on YA went to med school and know all the latest research!! jeez. ps you dont need a c/s unless you have tons of warts that either block the canal or are likely to cause a lot of bleeding. but dont trust me, I am sure someone here knows better than me

I would opt for a C section as the virus may be transmitted through mucous membranes and obviously blood. the doctor can't say anything about them due to patient confidentiality.

Pictures Of Internal Genital Warts

Here you will find pictures of internal genital warts.  some will show what genital warts look like inside females (interior of the vaginal canal), while other images primarily show what they look like on the exterior of the vagina.

It is very common among women to wonder if internal genital warts are a symptom of their condition.  It’s very difficult to analyze, as you will see from a couple of the photos below where the vagina has been folded inside out and a medical cam was used.

You may click each image to enlarge.  Please remember that some cases here are very severe, and these are not necessarily what the early signs of genital warts look like.  Genital Warts typically only reach this point if left untreated.

If you have any symptoms related to any of the images you see here, you may want to look into a genital warts treatment.

Oral cancer related to oral sex – Health Report – 7 March 2011

Transcript

This transcript was typed from a recording of the program. The ABC cannot guarantee its complete accuracy because of the possibility of mishearing and occasional difficulty in identifying speakers.

Norman Swan: OK, now to oral sex and what it can do to the mouth and throat. there was a session on this at the American Association for the Advancement of Science conference in Washington a couple of weeks ago. one of the researchers presenting was Maura Gillison who’s Professor of Internal Medicine at Ohio State University on Columbus.

Maura Gillison: we now know that HPV is a cause of oropharynx cancers; we also know that oropharynx cancers are rising in incidence in several regions in the world including the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Scandinavia and Denmark and Australia among other countries. there is some data from Sweden that this increase can be attributable to HPV given that tumours that were analysed from the 70s had only 23% positive for HPV by the mid 2000s that had increased to 93%.

We know when we compare the behaviours of people with oropharynx cancers to those who do not have oropharynx cancer, that the single greatest predictor on whether you have cancer or not is oral sexual behaviour and as the number of partners increases the risk increases. we also know now from five cross sectional studies of oral HPV in healthy individuals that when you compare people who have an oral HPV infection to those who do not that the single greatest factor associated with having an oral infection is the number of partners on whom a person has performed oral sex and that the risk increases as the number of partners increases.

What do we not know? Well it’s important to recognise that the relationship between HPV and head and neck cancer is new information. The cervical cancer field is about 20 years ahead of those of us who work in oral HPV and cancer. Whereas the natural history studies of cervical infection clearly linking behaviour to acquiring infection and then developing a cervical dysplasia were done in the ’80s and reported in the early ’90s. we have yet to perform such studies in healthy individuals so we have no time sequence of behaviour to infection to the development of a lesion.

How does that restrict us in this field? Well it’s important to realise that we don’t have the data on which to base the design of vaccine studies to see if currently available vaccines can prevent infections that lead to cancer. we can’t demonstrate definitively that certain behaviours are associated with risk of acquiring an infection and we don’t have the data yet to determine whether or not HPV detection can be used for oral cancer screening. The rise in oropharynx cancer in the US is predominately among young white males. we do not know the answer as to why. whether it’s explained solely on the basis of differences in sexual behaviour in acquiring an oral infection or whether there are major gender influences on what happens to an infection in an oral cavity in men and women or by race is a big question.

Norman Swan: While there’s lots unknown as Maura Gillison said it’s very likely that like cervical cancer it takes a few years for a human papilloma virus infection to induce a malignancy in the mouth, tonsils or throat. it suggests that what we get up to as young people may make a difference and that’s the interest of Bonnie Halpern-Felsher who’s Professor of Adolescent Medicine at the University of California San Francisco.

Bonnie Halpern-Felsher: Good morning, as many of us know oral sex is the most common form of partner sexual behaviour amongst adolescents but we really don’t know a lot about the patterns of behaviour, adolescents perceptions of oral sex compared to vaginal sex and then the experiences those adolescents are having once they have oral sex. so for the past 10 years we have been following a group of just over 600 adolescents assessing them twice a year through high school looking at three specific questions.

One – what are their perceptions and attitudes that adolescents hold about oral sex, what role do those play in their decision making and how do those perceptions compare to vaginal sex?

Two – what are the experiences that adolescents are reporting that they have when they have oral sex?

And three – is there any relationship between teens’ engagement in oral sex and subsequent vaginal sexual behaviour?

And in brief what we found was one that adolescents do think that oral sex is less risky when it comes to health risks such as STIs and certainly pregnancy. that makes sense but they also perceive that oral sex is less risky when it comes to social and emotional risks, so basically not feeling that it’s that big of a deal for them to have oral sex.

Second, we also found that adolescents who have oral sex compared to vaginal sex were actually experiencing fewer health, social and emotional consequences. they are also reporting experiencing fewer positive benefits of sexual behaviour of having oral compared to vaginal sex such as pleasure.

And then finally really we’re interested in if adolescents are having oral sex is it delaying the onset of vaginal sex or is it instead being a risk factor for vaginal sex. and what we found is that adolescents who had oral sex in 9th grade and early 10th grade were significantly more likely to go on to have vaginal sex in high school. Whereas those who had oral sex later in high school or didn’t initiate at all were much less likely to have vaginal sex in the later years of high school. so that oral sex seems to be predicting or speeding up the chances of having vaginal sex.

Norman Swan: so do the current HPV vaccines cover the types of the virus seen in the mouth and throat? Maura Gillison again.

Maura Gillison: The HPV types that cause head and neck cancers are similar to those for cervical cancer it’s just that HPV 16 accounts for a higher proportion of them so HPV 16 accounts for about 90% to 95% of oral cancers that are positive for HPV. do I currently recommend a vaccination? certainly I recommend vaccination for its current indications in boys that’s preventing genital warts and now quite new prevention of anal cancer.

I think it’s reasonable in the field given all of the evidence to date that the vaccine hasn’t failed when we’ve looked at a particular outcome in the genital infection in men or in women. It’s reasonable to extrapolate and to hope that the vaccine could reduce the incidence of oropharynx cancer but we do not have the data to claim that the vaccines can prevent oral infections that lead to cancer.

Norman Swan: but at the Washington conference the experts disagreed over whether every vaccinated male is actually protected against the cancerous changes. At least when we’re talking about below the belt. Diane Harper is Professor of Community and Family Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Missouri Kansas City.

Diane Harper: What we do know from vaccine trials is that in men we do not see the protection against 16 and 18. The evidence that has come forward in men shows 6 and 11 protection for all males regardless of sexual orientation but the protection against AIN, anal intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 and grade 3, which we think but yet do not have evidence is an anal cancer precursor has only been shown to be positive for the particular sub group of men who have sex with men.

Norman Swan: and what about circumcised men who seem to be less likely to pass on sexually transmitted viruses like HIV? is there any evidence on oral sex? Maura Gillison.

Maura Gillison: Circumcision has been shown to reduce transmission to partners. An individual who is not circumcised has higher HPV prevalence in more types than an individual who is. in theory that could be associated with the reduced risk of transmission to a partner in the oral cavity but there’s absolutely no data one way or the other on that topic.

Norman Swan: Cigarette smoking is still a major risk factor for head and neck cancers worldwide but as smoking rates decrease in developed countries like the US and Australia, HPV is taking over.

Maura Gillison: there is one publication in the literature from the Karolinska Institute using some tumours that they had in the Swedish Cancer Registry that had been stored from diagnosis back in the 1970s forward to about 2006. The data indicate that in the 1970s when they took those tonsil cancer tumours in their registries and tested them for HPV that 23% of them had evidence of the HPV genome in the tumours. by 2005 that had increased to 93%.

In the United States from 1970 from where we have the first data through to 2007 where we have the latest data, oropharynx cancer incidences have increased by about 225%.

Norman Swan: and if you’re still sceptical and wonder whether there’s a true cause and effect with human papilloma virus, there is more.

Maura Gillison: The one critical piece of information that we have to answer that question was published in the New England Journal in 2001 I believe. From the cancer registries in Scandinavia they have specimen banks where a large proportion of the population have donated serum. they looked at individuals who eventually developed oropharynx cancer and those who did not and looked back at serum that was collected on average 10 years before. and what they found was that individuals who had antibody HPV 16 in their blood had a 14 fold increase in their risk for subsequent development of oropharynx cancer. That’s the critical piece of information that we have that exposure preceded development of the disease and the only critical piece of information for that critical temporal association.

Norman Swan: so just watch yourself next time you’re out. Maura Gillison from Ohio State University. I’m Norman Swan and you’ve been listening to the Health Report.

Venereal Warts In Women Basic Review » Daily Articles

Genital warts are known to be caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). It is transmitted by skin-to-skin contact, usually during anal, oral or vaginal ual intercourse. Human papilloma virus has about 100 various types, of which 40 cause warts, and the main culprits are HPV 6 and HPV 11.

Female genital warts are typically located around the vagina, around the anus or on the thighs and could be risen and whiter or pink and small and in certain instances they are grouped and form clusters. certain types of the human papillomavirus cause cervical cancer; still, they do not cause warts. Diagnosing the infection is done by a healthcare provider who performs visual examination of the genital area and internal examination of the vagina or the anus. In some instances, he may also take a small sample (biopsy) from a wart and send it to a laboratory for testing.

Different treatment options are available nowadays, but it is very important to understand that they just take care of the visible signs and symptoms of the infection, while the HPV itself remains in the body. The most used treatments are topical. While some of them are safe to apply by the patients themselves, others should be applied only by medical staff because they have the risks of burning the skin and leaving scars. The podophyllin solution 10-25% is applied for about five weeks, TCA (trichloroacetic acid) 80-90% works in almost the same way, and podofilox solution 0.5% should be applied once or twice daily for three days, which is followed by four days of no treatment.

Almost all these methods are rather successful at reducing or removing the warts, yet some recidivation is possible. a few natural and herbal supplements and remedies have been long used too and great success has been reported by the vast majority of women that have tried them. Other methods like electrocauterization, laser ablation and surgical excision have lower recurrence rate than the topical treatments and are also used, yet also require visits to a clinic and have long recovery period.

Genital warts in women are contracted after skin-to-skin contact, and so using contraceptives offers some protection. The best way to evade getting infected with the human papillomavirus is by practicing monogamy or avoiding ual contacts. Vaccine for young women is available in all of the developed countries. It is recommended that women be vaccinated because the vaccine protects not only against HPV 6 and 11, but also against the HPV 18 and 16, which cause cervical cancer.

If you spot warts or clusters in the genital area or on the thighs, you should pay a visit to your healthcare provider right away – although the virus strains that cause the warts in women are believed to be low risk, you stand a good chance of getting rid of them if you commence the treatment before they spread to larger area. Follow your health care provider’s recommendations, abstain from ual contacts during the treatment course, and limit the quantity of your ual contacts with different partners in the future.
